Common Causes of Explosions & Burn Injuries

  • Steam Burns – these types of thermal burns are common in construction as many pipes contain steam and water is used to cool heavy machinery which may then turn into steam. These types of burns can leave permanent scars and can be extremely painful.
  • Chemical Burns—there are many types of chemicals at a construction site. Workers can come into contact with a variety of solvents, acids, basis that can instantly burn or slowly burn their victim.
  • Electrical Burns—electrical burns are extremely dangerous and in many cases, life threatening. Many construction site managers have policies into place with how electrical components should be managed on site due to the danger of exposed and loose wires.
  • Fire/Thermal Burns—Burns from fires are usually caused from explosions on the worksite. These types of explosions can be caused by defective fuel lines, exploding fuel or propane tanks, gas lines exploding, or improperly marked electrical equipment.

After a Burn or Explosion

If you’ve suffered a burn or been injured in an explosion, you should seek medical attention immediately. If you unable to get yourself to a hospital immediately, notify the closest available worker to call for medical assistance. Even if you’ve suffered a small burn, you should seek medical assistant immediately because as we mentioned above some chemicals are slow burners, meaning they take a bit of time to being to affect the area.

Once you are released from the hospital you may then want to determine what the cause of the accident was so you can report the incident to OSHA. At this point you should try and gather as much information as possible.

Some examples of useful information include:

  • Photos/Videos of the incident area
  • Collecting contact information of any witnesses of the incident
  • Write down which machinery and/or equipment you were using at the time
    • If you have access to a maintenance log or service records of the equipment, gather that information as well.
  • Write down everything you can remember from the incident
  • Contact an experienced workers compensation lawyer

  • Don’t give up until you give this company a try.

“It took 3 attempts with different Attorneys. After a year of being a client to another firm I was dropped as a client. Their reason was my case was not good enough. At this point this was my second attempt at the case with two separate firms. I did not know what to do. I was nervous and thought no one is going to take my case and I’m going to be stuck with all these medical bills. Was given a referral for The Warlick Firm. Figured I would give it one last shot. After meeting with them in person and explaining my case I finally felt a sense of relief and hope. The entire staff did a great job throughout the entire duration. Jason, Nick, and Norma. The girls behind the desk were always so pleasant and kind. This stuff can be so very stressful! The Warlick Firm was the best outcome. I wish I would have went to them first. They made what seemed impossible, possible.”
